FAQs - DCES | Data Center Equipment & Support

1.  I noticed that DCES is a new name, why did you change your name from Sure Companies?

Over the years, customers and prospects had difficulty knowing or remembering who and what Sure Companies stood for.  Sure Companies was meant to infer assurances that data center environmental equipment could be purchased from a professional staff of engineers, expeditors and administrators (and although Sure Companies continued to have repeat business, the question continued to be asked over and over again: “now tell me, why do you call yourselves Sure Companies?).  By changing the name to Data Center Equipment Support (DCES), the business model and business mission remains the same but Data Center and Facility Managers know when they see the name of a support company that specializes in data center equipment they know we are the people who can help them assess and purchase data center equipment.

2. I don’t know you.  How can I feel comfortable doing business with you?

When business partners meet on the internet, each party has to get to know  each other .  DCES prides itself on its relationships developed over many years.  Data Center equipment purchases are fairly specific due to the unique computer room environment.  DCES is an expert in knowing the best manufacturers, the correct match of equipment based on that particular data center environment and has a large warehouse as well as network to locate the right equipment.

3. You mentioned that you will help me assess what data center equipment I need.  How do you do that?

DCES specialists inquire about the engineering specifications that make up the data center environment.  Square footage, number of servers, possible expansion of servers, the quality and condition of the flooring, the age of the air conditioning/humidity controls as well as the safe guards to ensure that your backup power supply is more than adequate.  DCES starts simply listening and taking notes.

4. How do I know that I am getting the right equipment for my Data Center?

DCES has developed a proprietary engineering matrix that ensures that a Data Center manager is not over investing in equipment as well as not underinvesting.   If the Data Center is planning on expanding its capacity, DCES will also make sure that the equipment matrix is consistent with anticipated growth.

5. Your website suggests that DCES has a ‘better warranty than your competitors or even the original manufacturer.’  How can I prove that?

DCES keeps a file on our major manufacturers with copies of their warranties and when a prospect is reviewing one of DCES’s quotations, DCES attaches copies of both warranties.

6. What is your primary position: Pricing?  Quality?  Delivery?

DCES prides itself in not simply being distributor of data center equipment: whether new, surplus or refurbished.  We are interested in long term relationships which consist of trust, pricing and reliability.  We also take into consideration the need to be a consultant and advisor to the buyer, ensuring that the equipment they are acquiring is exactly what they need.

7. What are some significant achievements of your company?

a. De-installing ten computer rooms in California for Sun Microsystems
b.  Working in conjuction with Liebert Representatives when their prospects were unable to buy “brand new” Liebert equipment
c. Assisting Data Center and Purchasing Managers in a consulting role when they have already concluded that they know what they need/want but have asked DCES to confirm their engineering premises as well equipment selection and pricing

8. DCES guarantees: “if we don’t have it in our warehouse…we will find it!  How do you do that?

DCES begins with a comprehensive assessment that is developed in unision/collaboration with the prospective customer.  DCES then refers to its inventory network to locate that equipment, which may already be in the DCES warehouse or is located somewhere within the United States.  DCES provides a warranty and description of the equipment, when it can be delivered and the pricing.

9. I am inclined to buy ‘new.’  What are the advantages other than pricing to buy one of your refurbished units?

DCES is impartial regarding the virtues of new, surplus or refurbished.  DCES is committed to providing the wisest business offering to its prospective customer based on their need and ability to pay.  With our craftsmen, refurbished data center equipment is “like new” and less expensive with a warranty that exceeds an original manufacturers’ warranty.

10. You mentioned that you are willing to trade out my existing unit and send me a refurbished unit.  What are the advantages?

Instead of equipment being retired and replaced with new equipment, refurbished equipment with like new performance guarantees and warranties reduce the cash flow impact  that new equipment creates.
